Cable Assembler

Location: Miramar, CA 92126

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:15am - 4:45pm, Friday 7:15am - 3:45pm, off every other Friday

Pay: $21 - $24/hr

Must be US Citizen, able to pass a Security Clearance Background Check

The cable assembler should be knowledgeable in the assembly of cables that use MIL connectors. The assembler should also be proficient at harness assembly and able to perform basic mechanical assembly.

This position performs tasks to include:

* Assemble and test the performance of all manufactured cables and sub-assemblies.

* Know and understand IPC-A-610 (Acceptance) and IPC-WHMA-A-620 (Cable and Wire Harness).

* Ability to perform mechanical assembly of small equipment including alignment and assembly of component parts, using hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and fixtures.

* Assemble fiber cables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Interprets and works from electromechanical schematics, drawing, work instructions and bills of material to understand the required parts and steps needed to complete the assigned assembly.
  • Mounts complex assembled components requiring manual dexterity and the ability to work with hand tools, light soldering equipment, volt meters and other related test instrumentation. Knowledge of cleaning, lead preparation, component mounting, parts orientation.
  • Connects component lead wires to printed circuit or routes and connects wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points.
  • Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture, or other holding device.
  • Crimps, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, welds, solders, cements, press fits, or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place.
  • Know how to use automated cable test equipment and multimeter.
  • Uses hand tools to place small components in boards, cables, connectors, etc. Inspect parts and performs basic tests.
  • Solders and de-solders through-hole and surface mount technology (SMT) components. Installs and/or removes discrete components on to printed circuit assemblies (PCA's), panels using both traditional soldering iron and or hot air techniques.
  • May perform work (soldering and general inspection) under microscope.
  • Reworks and repairs defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.
  • Follows safety procedures in the use and handling of flammable and hazardous chemicals required to meet all cleanliness specifications.
  • Must be able to follow specific procedures and detailed instructions completely.
  • Ensures that quality checks are completed throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Records information on production records, logs and other report forms.
  • Provides basic training and instruction to lower-level assemblers on day-to-day assignments.
  • Aligns and assembles parts such as leads, wires, tabs, and terminals into housing.
  • Routes and laces cables.
  • Installs components and parts such as switches, on chassis, circuit boards, panels, and other units.
  • Routes and attaches wires and connectors to form circuitry and connects assembly to power supply sources, switch panels, or junction boxes.
  • Attaches hardware and seals assembly.
  • Examines parts for defects such as pinholes or chips.
  • Test operates unit to locate defects, measure performance, determine need for adjustment, and verify specified operation.
  • Replaces defective components and wiring.
  • Enters information on production records, logs, and other report forms.
  • Repairs defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.

IMPORTANT QUALITIES

  • DETAIL ORIENTED. Experienced in cable manufacturing and cable components a must. (Will be required to describe cable parts and how they are used and interface together).
  • Follows production drawings, sample assemblies and verbal instructions with minimum supervision. Understands and applies established acceptable workmanship practices to all facets of electronic assembly. (Must demonstrate an ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

· High School Diploma

· 2+ years of experience assembling cables and harnesses

· Fiber cable manufacturing experience desired

· Must know how to use Microsoft Office applications
